Iowa Writers’ House

For 2 years, I created digital and print marketing materials and managed social media accounts for the Iowa Writers’ House, a nonprofit literary organization.

 

The designs I created for the IWH promoted writing workshops, the Bicultural Iowa Writers’ Fellowship, writing groups, book releases, and connected the local writing community in Iowa City and around the state.

 

One of my main responsibilities at the Iowa Writers’ House was to maintain and update the design and content on the IWH website.

The following posters were part of a multi-channel marketing campaign to promote the creative writing workshops hosted at the house. All designs are my original work, created using Adobe InDesign, with contributed photos from each of the writing instructors. The posters were printed and hung around the city in community buildings and the spread of these designs contributed to the purchase of writing workshop registrations.

In addition to being a space that hosts writing workshops, the Iowa Writers’ House is also a historic bed and breakfast, being the old home of Emma Harvat, the nation’s first female mayor. The half-page advertisement included below for the B&B was featured in the playbill Stages at the Englert Theatre. 


Educational Designs

Reading can change hearts and minds, but fully engaging with a story often takes place as much off of the page as it does on it. I designed and helped to conceptualize these curriculums and reading guides for multiple volumes of the We the Interwoven book series to incite powerful discussions around the anthology in schools and the community.

Web Design

I designed the website for the Bicultural Iowa Writers' Fellowship from the ground up. The site is intended to encourage potential applicants, promote book sales, and further the organization’s goal to get the anthology into every library in Iowa.

Instagram

For the Iowa Writers’ House Instagram, I created content that highlighted the Iowa City literary community and the Midwest literary community as a whole. This literature-focused content took various forms including but not limited to promotion of writing workshops, local literary events, book releases, and book recommendations from members of the staff.

Discussing Complex Personal Narratives Slider

As a part of the educational push for using the curriculums for the We the Interwoven series, I created this 3-part slider post that gives readers guidelines for discussing the stories from the books.

It dictates the intent behind publishing the series, and what can be gained from having discussions with others around often contentious societal issues.

Countdown

This nine-part grid design was a countdown to the release of We the Interwoven, Volume 3. Each post introduced one of the seven writers of the book and provided a summary of their story in the anthology.

Writing Workshop Discount
