Earthwords

The Undergraduate Literary Review

My position as the Public Relations Designer for Earthwords, an undergraduate literary magazine on the University of Iowa campus, allowed me to work alongside a PR team of other students to design creative advertisements for community outreach and promotion of the magazine.

I crafted these various designs to promote events and submissions to Earthwords. The designs were printed and spread around campus buildings and the Iowa City metro area.

40th Anniversary Playlist

To celebrate 40 years of the magazine being in publication, I worked in collaboration with the PR team to curate a Spotify playlist of songs from the past four decades. The entire editorial staff submitted songs that were released between 1979 and 2019, and then the PR team worked together to narrow it down to one song per year. These designs were visually inspired by album covers and graphic styles of each time period.

These designs were published as a collected Instagram post to the Earthwords account on February 3, 2020.

Submission Series

I created this collection of designs to promote submissions for Issue 40 of the magazineThe designs were shared on the magazine's social media accounts to spread information of the submission period. In addition to the web marketing campaign, I also created a poster-sized version of these graphics to be printed and hung in various locations around campus and the downtown Iowa City area.

The spread of these designs contributed to an increase in submission numbers to over 350, which was 50 more than the previous year’s total.

Photo & Video

I shot and edited these staff photos of the 2019-2020 editorial team for posts on the Earthwords website and social media accounts.

Staff Application Video

As a reminder for our 2020-2021 editorial board applications, I created this short video to be posted on the Earthwords Instagram and Facebook accounts.

To create this video, I used the staff photos which I had previously taken and edited the video itself within Adobe After Effects.
